Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco - is a Canadian and American singer/songwriter. Her albums span over 20 years. Her music is classified as folk rock as well as alternative rock, but it also has influence from hip music and jazz. Widely considered a feminist icon Grammy award winner Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement being one of the pioneers to establish her own label the year 1990. DiFranco's parents, Elizabeth (Ross), a previous student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each other while they were students at the same school. Her father is Italian origin, while her mother comes from Montreal. Ani Difrasco wrote and recorded the hit song "32 Flavors". The song debuted on her 1995 sixth album Not a Pretty Girl. The song's version is featured on the 1999 Canadian romantic movie Better Than Chocolate. DiFranco issued an apology in 2013, following the revelation that it was revealed that she had scheduled a three-day conference on a Louisiana plantation.
